Massage Therapy

At Retreat Acupuncture, we offer massage therapy as a complementary modality to support physical and emotional well-being. While not all methods of massage are rooted in TCM, massage shares its emphasis on restoring balance and promoting the body’s natural healing processes. Our licensed massage therapist blend Eastern and Western techniques to address muscle tension, pain, circulation, and relaxation. Each session is customized to your physical condition and wellness goals.

We offer several styles of massage:

  • Tui Na – a traditional Chinese medical massage that stimulates meridians and acupoints
  • Deep Tissue – targeting chronic muscle patterns and tension
  • Swedish – a gentle, full-body massage for relaxation
  • Prenatal Massage – safe, supportive bodywork for pregnancy
  • Sports Massage – focused on injury prevention and recovery

Benefits of Massage Therapy:

  • Pain Relief: Alleviates chronic back pain, neck tension, and muscle soreness.
  • Stress Reduction: Decreases cortisol levels, promoting relaxation and mental clarity.
  • Improved Circulation: Enhances blood flow, supporting tissue health and recovery.
  • Enhanced Flexibility: Increases range of motion and reduces stiffness.
  • Better Sleep: Promotes deeper, more restful sleep patterns.

Types of Massage Offered:

  • Swedish Massage: Gentle techniques for overall relaxation and stress relief.
  • Deep Tissue Massage: Targets deeper muscle layers to address chronic tension.
  • Prenatal Massage: Tailored to the needs of expectant mothers, easing pregnancy-related discomfort.
  • Sports Massage: Focuses on athletic performance and injury prevention.
  • Aromatherapy Massage: Combines massage with essential oils to enhance therapeutic effects.

Scientific Evidence:

  • A systematic review found that massage therapy, when continued for at least five weeks, improved pain, anxiety, and depression in individuals with fibromyalgia.
  • Another study indicated that massage therapy resulted in better pain and disability scores for individuals with subacute low back pain compared to other treatments.

Connection to TCM:

While massage therapy is distinct from TCM, it aligns with the TCM principle of promoting the free flow of Qi (energy) and blood to maintain health and alleviate discomfort.
